How to Present Like A PRO?

Presentation is a skill that can be mastered with careful preparedness.
How to Present Like A PRO?
While there is no denying the fact that public speaking may not be an easy task, a little planning can definitely make things easier.

Developing and delivering effective presentations is critical for corporate success. When it comes to addressing even a small crowd or making a presentation in front of a small group, most of us get anxious. It is a skill that can be mastered with careful preparedness.

Here are 12 quick-tips for you to present like a PRO in your next presentation,
  1. Start planning well in advance. No matter how confident you think you are, it’s always better to start preparing well in advance. The earlier you start preparing, the better it is.

  2. Apart from the content, your planning would include everything from visuals - posters, charts, PowerPoint presentation, etc – to your speech, appearance and body language.

  3. According to studies conducted, visuals are the most effective medium of communication because the brain absorbs visual data much faster than any other source of information. So your visual will be your trump card.

  4. Don't overload your presentation with information. Keep the visuals as simple as possible. Get creative and use minimal images and words, but ensure that you convey your message effectively.

  5. Start working on your speech. It’s best to write it down and practice. Ensure that you are not getting monotonous and include occasional momentary relief by adding humor to your speech.
Ensure that you are not getting monotonous and include occasional momentary relief by adding humor to your speech.
  6. Speak about only those points that you think needs to be presented. The less important points can be shared through handouts, etc. Write down your points and keep it ready for easy referral.

  7. Apart from the content, your speech preparation should include voice modulation and pronunciation as well. Recording yourself and listening to it will give you an idea of where you falter.

  8. It’s important to keep your session alive and your audience awake. So ensure that you do not sound mechanical. It’s advisable to make the speech as conversational as possible by including your audience in it.

  9. It’s important to talk ‘to’ your audience. Maintain eye contact and avoid using fillers like ‘eeh’, ‘uhm’, ‘aah’, etc. All this requires a lot of practice. It usually takes more than three weeks to prepare a good impromptu speech.

  10. Be presentable; show your confident personality. Your body language is perhaps the first thing your audience is likely to notice. So work on it.
Think from your audience’s perspective and try to find ways of improving.
  11. Think from your audience’s perspective and try to find ways of improving. Appear confident. Rather than standing in one place, walk around. However, do not indulge in brisk walking.

  12. Check and re-check your preparation. Watch what you say. Use pauses and speak slowly. In case of an unwarranted situation, do not panic; handle it with tact.
Have a great presentation!

Why Cultural Exchange is Important for Students?

Why Cultural Exchange
is Important for Students ?

Global understanding, today, has become an extremely important part of a person’s wholesome development into global citizenship. And while exploring and learning about the cultures of others, you tend to discover new aspects of yourself.

Since the beginning, I have had a keen interest in people and have always aspired to experience and explore other cultures, and simultaneously learn and contribute as much as possible. Be it in school or in college, I always participated in events that promoted community welfare and cross-culture experience ignoring all prejudices of caste, creed, class or color. During my college days, I was an active member of ‘Alliance’, the students’ welfare committee and participated in various student exchange programs and cultural events.

While exploring and learning about the cultures of others, you tend to discover new aspects of yourself.
By learning new cultures at a young age, you get to learn the skills and cultural acceptance that prepare you to become a more mature individual. When you experience a different culture through various cultural exchange activities, you gain a deeper understanding of yourself and those around you—deepening your knowledge of foreign cultures and strengthening global understanding.

"Culture is this thing that we can exchange among ourselves as human beings to knock aside our differences and build upon our similarities. Cultural exchange is the ultimate exchange." - Chuck D

Global understanding, today, has become an extremely important part of a person’s wholesome development into global citizenship. Learning new cultures can be a very exciting, fun, and enlightening experience. Try to experience building new friendships, taking responsibility for yourself, respecting differences and tolerating the beliefs of others. And while exploring and learning about the cultures of others, you tend to discover new aspects of yourself.

Learning new cultures can be a very exciting, fun, and enlightening experience.
There are also several other benefits that come along with cultural exchange experience,
  • Self-development and awareness leading to enhanced self-confidence and self-esteem.
  • Integration into another family as well as the development of life-long friendships, fostering an appreciation of home and family.
  • A tremendous sense of accomplishment upon completion encourages students to develop independent opinions, make informed decisions and strive to attain fresh goals.
  • Prospective employers in almost every field look favorably upon experience gained while living overseas and knowledge obtained of another language and culture.
  • Successful program completion represents an excellent measure of personal flexibility, encompassing an ability to reach compromise, focus and succeed through challenging times.

Prospective employers in almost every field look favorably upon experience gained while living overseas
and knowledge obtained of another language and culture.
As a final advice, I would strongly suggest the following,

"Become friends with people who aren’t your age. Hang out with people whose first language isn’t the same as yours. Get to know someone who doesn’t come from your social class or culture. This is how you see the world. This is how you grow."

Quick Tips on How to Make a Strong Scholarship Application

A successful scholarship application is more about how well you 𝐩𝐫𝐞𝐩𝐚𝐫𝐞 your application.
Quick Tips on How to Make
Strong Scholarship Application
A successful scholarship application is not so much about how many scholarships you apply for, but more about how well you 𝐩𝐫𝐞𝐩𝐚𝐫𝐞 your application.

Meet Anubhav who recently got selected for his admission to the Manchester School of Architecture (MSA), Manchester, United Kingdom.

He, in fact, left no stone unturned in making his dream come true. He made sure to prepare himself in the best possible way. As being a sincere and ambitious student right from the very beginning, it was great to guide him during his graduation years. It was also a pleasure to write an official letter of recommendation for him; and as expected when he got selected, I felt super-proud of him.

It was great to guide him during his graduation years and a pleasure to write an official letter of recommendation for him.

Most large universities offer a variety of scholarships, many of which are funded by internal or external sources. Here are Quick Tips on How to Make a Strong Scholarship Application

𝟭. Read and understand the scholarship 𝐞𝐥𝐢𝐠𝐢𝐛𝐢𝐥𝐢𝐭𝐲 criteria well. It is better to select and focus on the scholarship that you seem to be eligible.

𝟮. Pay attention to the 𝐝𝐞𝐚𝐝𝐥𝐢𝐧𝐞 for scholarship applications to assess if you are able to complete and provide all the paperwork by the due deadline.

𝟯. If scholarships are directed towards attracting high performance in 𝐞𝐱𝐭𝐫𝐚𝐜𝐮𝐫𝐫𝐢𝐜𝐮𝐥𝐚𝐫 activities, it's important to provide details of all your achievements and certificates.

𝟰. Your 𝐂𝐕 is crucial. It gives you the opportunity to highlight areas relevant to the scholarship application. A covering letter with your application is useful if you want to highlight any special circumstances.

𝟱. 𝐑𝐞𝐟𝐞𝐫𝐞𝐞 reports need to be professionally written (preferably on a letter head) in professional language. This allows for the report to be treated as credible and acceptable to the assessor.

𝟲. And finally, a successful scholarship application is not so much about how many scholarships you apply for, but more about how well you 𝐩𝐫𝐞𝐩𝐚𝐫𝐞 your application.

If you can dream it, you can do it.

Also Remember, "if you can dream it you can do it!"

Meet Mohammad Hidayat!

It was pleasure to hear his story of his transformation into a confident performer.

I vividly remember, Md. Hidayat came across as a humble student during T&D sessions. He was quite ambitious, but confidence and communication were his areas of improvement.

I tried to ignite a spark in him, and inspired him have a sense of purpose in life. Once this goal got accomplished, half the job was already done.

The rest of the task was to create an interest in him by incorporating a number of experiential learning methods to bring variety and engagement.

Where There's A Will, There's A Way!

There are some students who never ever give you any chance to doubt their potential and among such league,
stand out two brilliant ones.
Where There's A Will, There's A Way!
If you can dream it, you can do it because dreams do come true when you have an iron will to succeed.

It's a very old saying, "Where There's A Will, There's A Way!" and this stands true since ages for all those brave souls who never give up, stay strong and keep moving forward.

As a trainer, it's always a great delight when I witness my trainees learning, growing and succeeding in all aspects of life be it personal or professional.

There are some students (with a winning attitude) who never ever give you any chance to doubt their potential and overtime make their mark. Among such league, stand out two brilliant ones.

One is Ishani whom I trained when she was pursuing undergraduate program at Graphic Era Hill University and the second one is Kajal whom I trained when she was a management student at Doon Business School.

Today Ishani is a proud member of Wipro Limited family plus recipient of sponsored M.Tech. from BITS, Pilani. I vividly remember her active participation in all Training and Development sessions, where she got rigorously trained on Employability and Career Skills.
Today Ishani is a proud member of Wipro Limited family plus recipient of sponsored M.Tech. from BITS, Pilani.
Full marks for her hard work and dedication that she gave her best in all T&D related activities, and improved herself in all areas. She is the one who didn't just wait for the opportunities; in fact, she created them.

With her dedication and persistence, Kajal earned offer letters from brands like J W Marriott, The Lalit,
Radisson, Ramada along with an offer from her dream organization Taj Hotels.
It was such an emotional moment when Kajal dedicated her dream organization's offer letter to me. On her first presentation itself, Kajal made it very clear that she had crystal-clear vision about her career aspirations.

Since the beginning, I was quite impressed with her performance, and encouraged her to try in the field of training and development. With proper guidance and feedback, she kept improving, and overtime she became one of my favorite trainees due to her super-active participation.

Indeed, it was a great experience mentoring her. With her dedication and persistence, she earned offer letters from brands like J W Marriott, The Lalit, Radisson and Ramada. And recently, she received an offer from her dream organization Taj Hotels.

Long story short, if you can dream it, you can do it because dreams do come true when you have an iron will to succeed.

"The achievements of willpower are almost beyond computation. Scarcely anything seems impossible to the man who can will strongly enough and long enough."

- Orison Swett Marden

6 Ways to Improve Your Spoken English Skills

Failure is NOT the opposite of success, it's just a stepping stone to Success.
6 Ways to Improve Your Spoken English Skills
Reports say that inadequate English is one of the key factors holding back students, especially those from smaller towns. The ability to speak and write in flawless English is one of the most important parameters used by the employers in India.

According to the present statistics, more than half of all engineers (52%) would not be fluent in a majority of words that are used with regular frequency in the workplace. Hereby, I am sharing 6 solid and doable suggestions (personally experienced) and would expect you to start working on them right away,

(1) Buy or borrow a Grammar Book and revise the following 8 tenses (go through the solved examples, learn them, practice the exercises and also get them crosschecked by your friend or teacher),
  • Simple Present
  • Simple Past
  • Simple Future
  • Present Continuous
  • Past Continuous
  • Future Continuous
  • Present Perfect
  • Past Perfect

(2) Start reading at least 2 newspaper articles (long or short) of your choice and collect new words from them and note them in a notebook properly. Remember, when you read these articles, try to read them loud and clear (you need to hear your own voice while reading). If in case you get confused with their meaning or pronunciation (feel free to take help from Google). Plus revise ALL those new words (with their meaning in Hindi or English) daily in the morning.

(3) Watch one video (of 15 to 20 minutes) from TED daily and watch the same video at least three times to get appropriate understanding. Don't worry if you don't understand it initially (you can also use the subtitles plus transcript), but make sure you watch it three times at least.

(4) Make a promise to yourself that you will try to speak in English even if you make mistakes (don't bother about what people would think of you!). Remember, you are learning and the ones who are truly concerned about you, would never laugh at you (rather they will encourage you) and if someone laughs, just ignore the reaction. Try giving presentations, speeches, talks as and when possible. And prepare for them extra hard!

(5) If you don't find people around you to practice your English skills, talk to yourself in English (Yes, you heard it right!). It might sound a bit strange or odd, but I followed the same practice and it gave me huge returns.

(6) Work hard, practice sincerely and I am sure you will make it happen. Remember, failure is NOT the opposite of success, it's just a stepping stone to Success.

Campus Placement Preparation: Abstract GD Topics (III)

Campus Placement Preparation:
Abstract GD Topics (III)
Abstract Topics are similar to a googly thrown to a batsman. One can hit a six or might even get stumped. Abstract topics can be as random as: ‘Black’, ‘Girl in Yellow Boots’, ‘Friday’, ‘5’ or ‘I Like Ice-creams’. We should understand that such topics tend to test our ability of lateral thinking and creativity.

Abstract topics are more challenging because they are perception based. The topic may be interpreted in different ways by different participants. To deal with abstract topics, it’s important to know the qualities that will be assessed during the discussion of abstract topics. Through them interviewers will assess candidate’s creativity, application of knowledge, clarity of thought, ability to deal with uncertainty under stress, leadership qualities & negotiation skills.

One should have the confidence & clarity to present one’s views and to drive the discussion. In fact, an abstract topic is a golden opportunity to present one’s creative thinking and get noticed by the interviewers, which will ease the next step in the process, i. e interview. To be comfortable with abstract topics and nail them, there is no special formula but to PREPARE for them & be ready for them psychologically.

One advantage to deal with many abstract topics is, not much of factual knowledge is needed, day to day worldly knowledge is sufficient (Ex: Every cloud has a silver lining). Use your creativity to the maximum; there is no right or wrong interpretation as long as one can justify one's perspective with clear reasoning.

Take the lead, present your views. If all the group members agree on one view, the discussion can be carried out on the same. Otherwise, in a 10-20 min GD present your perspective and lead the discussion. Along with presenting your interpretation, do actively listen & participate in discussing others’ views too.

To get different perspectives, use the SPELT (Social, Political, Economic, Legal & Technological) approach, which enables one to look at a subject from 360-degree angle. Finally, to deal with abstract topics one needs to have the same preparation and confidence as dealing with other topics. Even when you feel your view is not outstanding, it’s important to speak out and express it in the best way.

Some Important Abstract GD Topics are as follows,
  1. To be or not to be
  2. Tricky situation- simple solution
  3. Life is full of cactus, but you don't have to sit on it.
  4. Wheel
  5. Short prayers reach heaven.
  6. Magic Wand
  7. Ray
  8. Door
  9. Size does matter.
  10. Utopia
  11. Insanity is essential.
  12. Black & White
  13. Stay Hungry, Stay Foolish
  14. Black Box
  15. Bharat vs. India
  16. India 2025
  17. Majority vs. Minority
  18. Blue Versus Red
  19. White Flag
  20. Black is Good.
  21. Red is Bad.
  22. Roots & Wings
  23. Walls are Dead.
  24. Famous or Important
  25. Might is Right.
  26. Pink
  27. Success
  28. Freedom
  29. Zero
  30. Dot
